Project Description

Mystery, Mistletoe, and Music by the Bay

Special events at Fort Monroe continue to be the driving force in bringing entertainment and enjoyment to thousands of visitors to Fort Monroe.

Fourth at the Fort was held on Saturday, July 4, and the patriotic celebration included free family-friendly activities, food vendors and a concert by the US Navy Fleet Forces Band. Military bands play regularly on Thursday nights in Continental Park and attendance grew to over 700 people at the final concert of the summer.

Fort Monroe now hosts numerous groups for various events throughout the year. The Hampton Cup Regatta, Peninsula Youth Sailing, and the Old Point Comfort Yacht Club host significant events in the waters around Fort Monroe. Activities such as the Bodacious Bazaar and events at the Paradise Ocean Club provide entertainment as well as commerce to Fort Monroe and the City of Hampton. Ghost tours and holiday home tours are well received and demonstrate the opportunity to use Fort Monroe as a back-drop for both entertainment and education. Looking to the future, Fort Monroe clearly holds much promise as a revenue-generating site for venues of various sizes and scope of entertainment.

The Fort Monroe Ghost Walk had more stories to tell on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24. On Saturday, December 12, the Mistletoe Homes Tour featured four historic homes decorated for the holidays and open house locations at other special points of interest.

In addition to the public special events at Fort Monroe, there are many private events. So far, for the 2016 season, there are 15 weddings booked at Continental Park, 58 picnics booked at Shelter 5, and 11 rentals at the newly developed Outlook Beach Picnic Area.
